There’s a new canned alcoholic beverage on the market, and thankfully, it’s not a seltzer. Born in Houston, TX – All Hands Cocktails seeks to provide clarity to consumers in search of the perfect canned cocktail. In the muddied, competitive waters of hard seltzers, craft beers, and euphorics – RTDs (ready to drink cocktails) have emerged as another option for consumers to consider when cruising the aisles of their favorite liquor stores. This local brand is turning heads with a product that can only be described as “damn fine”.

“It makes High Noon taste like Miller Lite” – anonymous fan

Many have attempted to make on-the-go cocktails match the quality of a bar experience but have fallen short; All Hands has set out to change that. All Hands Cocktails take the quality and strength of your favorite craft cocktail and deliver that in the convenience of a 12oz can. Each can is thoughtfully mixed with the highest-quality vodka that can be sourced, all natural flavors, premium soda water and is then canned at a sturdy 10% ABV to give their consumers not one, but two (you read that right), delicious, bar-strength cocktails in a can.

From tailgates and backyards to skiffs and horse trails – see for yourself why this canned concoction is selling out everywhere they go.

CHANGING THE INDUSTRY ONE CRAFT COCKTAIL AT A TIME

From their Midtown HQ, Founder, CEO, and native Houstonian Josh Sanders leads a talented team of professionals from the beverage and premium outdoor industries. Prior to starting All Hands, Josh spent the bulk of his career in finance, where he developed a knack for identifying market inefficiencies. It was that passion for transforming gaps into opportunities that led Josh to take aim at the exploding seltzer market.

Specifically, Sanders noted a few key opportunities for improvement: many hard seltzers simply taste bland, or outright bad. Most of what is available in today’s market are made with sugar-based malt liquor & cheap mystery ingredients. They’re served in skinny white cans covered in fruit, are marketed primarily to women and their alcohol by volume is generally half of what consumers would get when ordering a cocktail at a bar or restaurant.

All Hands took these observations and intentionally designed their products to stand in those gaps. The quality of their ingredients has been a benchmark for them from the beginning, vowing to never take the “mystery alcohol” approach of most wine or malt-based products. All Hands stands tall knowing their craft-quality canned cocktail uses 6-times-distilled, grade-9 vodka as their base, along with 100% all natural, gluten free ingredients. They’re packaged in standard 12oz cans without a fruit illustration in sight and they’re certainly not lacking in alcohol content.

BECOMING A LIFESTYLE OUTDOOR BRAND

The creation of All Hands Cocktails has no doubt been a massive undertaking, but this isn’t their founder’s first rodeo. Josh Sanders drew inspiration from his time working with Austin-based startup YETI Coolers, when they were taking the outdoor industry by storm.

“As good as they were at making world-class insulated premium outdoor products, they were even better at building an aspirational lifestyle brand, and a community to advocate for it” Sanders says of YETI. “That’s powerful.”

“Consumers value convenience, and the concept of a great cocktail in the convenience of a can was a fantastic idea. But what the market gave us instead were low quality diet mocktails. We understand there’s a buyer for low calorie, low ABV beverages,” CEO Josh Sanders admits, “but we have also never seen anyone order a cocktail at a bar, and ask how many calories are in it. There is more than one consumer to serve here. Buyers are graduating from cheap seltzers to discover they can have a real craft quality cocktail that goes anywhere. That’s our customer, and that’s our mandate”.

While most spirits brands lead with flashy, consumption-focused campaigns, All Hands has chosen the road less traveled by prioritizing community-driven word-of-mouth instead. They took a page out of the YETI playbook and assembled an elite team of outdoor personalities & outfitters to help authentically drive their message home within the communities that share their love of the outdoors. They’ve recruited folks like Hilary Hutcheson, John Dunaway, Journey South Outfitters & Spoke Hollow Outfitters as brand ambassadors – dubbed the “Good Fleet”-  to validate not only their product quality, but also its relevance in an outdoor setting.

All Hands also shares a passion for ‘good work,’ or stewardship with the outdoor community through environmental giving with 1% for the Planet, and helping mentorship and conservation initiatives through Spoke Hollow Outfitters and Stewards of The Wild.

“It was natural to work with All Hands, because they share our commitment to conservation. We both know that recruiting adult onset hunters and anglers will pave the way for future conservation and by working together, we bring people to the wild, ”says Josh Crumpton of Spoke Hollow Outfitters.

HOUSTON, WE HAVE A COCKTAIL

Much like the city of Houston itself, the executive team at All Hands is a melting pot of diverse career experience. All four founders are native Houstonians, with three of the founders graduating high school together in the Houston suburb of Deer Park. The All Hands team is also proud to be female founded and female led, with a female co-founder and 3 of 5 female VP’s.

“We were born here, raised here, and are raising our families here. So we take immense pride in building All Hands in Houston, and we think we’ve crafted something special for the Space City.”

For obvious reasons, the brand’s initial launch has taken place in Texas, with Houston being the tip of the spear. When they first hit the shelves of all 12 Houston area Total Wine locations across the city in late 2021, every last can was sold out within the first 4 days, and stores continue to struggle keeping the product in stock.

All Hands is distributed by industry leader Republic National Distributing Company, and will spend the bulk of 2022 growing distribution across Texas, before setting their sights on nationwide expansion.

All Hands Cocktails also inked a few impressive deals at launch making them the Official Canned Cocktail for the athletic programs of the Rice Owls and University of Houston Cougars, as well as for the Texas Tech Red Raiders out in West Texas. Yes, this means All Hands is available for sale and consumption at all of their sporting events. “Canned cocktails, sports, and tailgating go hand in hand, and the early success of these strategic partnerships has exceeded our expectations, with some of the largest collegiate venues in the state selling out by half time, Sanders says.”

At the end of the day, a damn fine cocktail in a can is delicious at your kitchen table, but they believe that it’s even better enjoyed outside, among friends, doing the things you love.

“There are a lot of well made products, and our industry is filled with fantastic competitors. But it’s really difficult for a brand to also demonstrate heart, and connect with people on an emotional level,” CEO Josh Sanders says. “For us, that connection is foundational. We are building a community, a fleet of cocktail lovers. That’s our North Star.”
