Texas Festival Season Is Upon Us; Act Accordingly.
Texas Festival Season Is Upon Us; Act Accordingly.

Whether you're fixin' to see live music, eat yourself silly, soak up some culture, or watch a good old-fashioned rodeo, springtime is the ideal time to get out and enjoy all that Texas has to offer. The Lone Star State sure knows how to host a festival that'll knock your boots off.

Here are the ones you've heard of: SXSW (Austin), Fiesta San Antonio, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo plus the legendary World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest (now that’s a can’t miss), and don't miss the Downtown Rodeo Parade on February 28, it's a beloved tradition where horses and marching bands fill the streets of Houston! BUT Let's Mosey Off the Well-Trodden Festival Path, Shall We?

Here's a list of some lesser-known festivals that deserve a big ol' spotlight:

  • Fredericksburg Food & Wine Fest: The heart of Texas Hill Country wine country throws open its cellar doors for this celebration of local vintages, gourmet grub, and the region's German heritage.
  • Poteet Strawberry Festival: This ain't your average fruit stand, folks! The 78th Annual Poteet Strawberry Festival brings 100,000 visitors to this itty-bitty town to celebrate Texas's sweetest crop. This festival now serves up everything from strawberry shortcake to strawberry salsa.
  • Crawfish Festivals: Spring is crawfish season, and Houston, East Texas, and Southeast Texas go absolutely wild for these little mudbugs. Look for crawfish boils and festivals complete with live Cajun music, ice-cold beer, and mountains of spicy crustaceans.
  • Eeyore's Birthday Party (Austin): Now this one's a hoot and a half! One of Austin's weirdest and loveliest traditions returns for its 61st year. Expect live music, drum circles, funky vendors, and pure, uncut Austin weirdness. I don’t think we have to say it, but: Keep Austin weird

What makes Texas festivals special isn't just the toe-tapping music, finger-licking food, or world-class entertainment; it's the people, plain and simple! So dust off your boots, round up your friends and family, slap on some sunscreen, and get ready to make some memories that'll last longer than a West Texas sunset.
